How To Stay In Touch With Past Clients and Update That Aging Contact
Information In 1/100th The Time
By Mark Faust
What have you done to stay in touch with
some of those aging names on your data base? Are you even sure
that most of the contact info is accurate? If you use ACT or
Outlook, you can totally automate the process of updating
your contact info. Plaxo is a service that has
automated the process and eliminated 99% of the work it once
took to accomplish this much needed chore.
I used to block off two half days to do
this process, but recently after trying Plaxo I was
able to start and accomplish 80% of the process in under 20
minutes. The program sends a template to all of your emails
showing the contact information you have on them and allows
them to update it themselves. Almost everyone I was concerned
about, responded promptly with their respective updates, yet
after a few weeks some updates are still trickling in.
Plaxo lets you know when you need
to approve changes. You can allow all changes in just seconds,
or disallow any individual change. The alterations are noted
briefly in the notes section of each contact. All in all, I'm
sure I spent less than an hour in total efforts to update most
of my approximately 2100 contacts that have an email. Talk
about time savings!
Now here is the kicker, would you benefit
from putting a reminder in front of all those contacts about
you and your business? If you have anything to do with sales
or marketing and benefit from "staying in touch" with old
friends and clients, then this is a must have. Plaxo
allows you to customize the email note that is sent to your
list. I used the standard Plaxo email message and I am
betting that some of those who followed up with calls will
actually lead to incremental new business. Next time I send a
Plaxo update email, I will be adding a little bit about
some new services and ask for a call if they'd be interested
in talking, in addition to sending my updated information and
the request for updates on their contact information.
This isn't just an information management
tool, this is one of the easiest and most economical marketing
tools a small business owner, sales or marketing focused
person can use. How many sales would it take to justify the
annual Plaxo investment.
Whether it’s the time or potential new
business, this tool is a "No Brainer."
